Today in Canada we observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We recognize the tragic legacy of Canada's residential school system by remembering the children who never returned home. We also honour the families, communities and survivors that were deeply affected by these institutions.
This day is part of a broader effort toward truth and reconciliation and provides an opportunity for Canadians to reflect on the country's colonial past, learn more about Indigenous history and cultures, and support healing processes within Indigenous communities.
This year, in honour and recognition of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples, Score Promotions is proud to sponsor the Kay Taylor Memorial Bursary, offered by the Ontario Native Welfare Administrators Association (ONWAA).
ONWAA is a membership owned, non-profit organization in Ontario, founded to address the needs of First Nation Social Service Administrators. They are dedicated to the well-being of their members and the successful delivery of social programs. They provide training, professional development, and resources tailored towards specific needs of individual communities.
This bursary honours ONWAA founder Kathleen Taylor, of Curve Lake First Nation. It is awarded annually to students in their graduating year of a post-secondary program (preferably in a social discipline), belonging to an ONWAA community.
By sponsoring this bursary, Score Promotions hopes to create a lasting change in the lives of Indigenous students who are working to further their education. We want to help preserve Kay Taylor’s legacy and her dedication to the importance of social assistance within Ontario First Nation communities.
